Lake Como

I'm getting behind and in a bit of a muddle with the blog and we are having a great time on lake Como.

Me outside our hotel.  Its quirky but lovely.  All sorts of fake pillars and strange paintings. Plus a carpet outside!

We took the hyrodrofoil fast ferry from here in the north to southern Lenno stopping to pick up passengers at Menaggio and Bellagio and many other beautiful places.

Spray not rain.  This shows a small hire boat that has not seen the ferry which is tooting like mad.  Wall of snow capped mountains in the distance

There is a monastery nearby and also a lovely villa which is owned by a charity for the disadvantaged and  those in poor health.

Monastery.  Lombardy Romanesque.  Sad story about its revival in 1935.  Bought by an Italian whose brother and sister in law were murdered whilst doing voluntary work in Africa.

The fantastic villa.  Typical of the region that is a refuge for disadvantaged people, and those with addictions.

Paddle steamer off Menaggio

We spent the day at Lenno.  Not one of the more popular places like Belaggio, but we wanted somewhere quiet.  Almost all of the passengers got out at Bellagio.
Lenno

Tomorrow we head out on our bikes around the northern section of the lake and down to Menaggio and then over the mountain pass via a dissused railway towards lake Lugano.
